The history

The Sint Nicolaas hoeve (Saint Nicholas farm) has a rich history . More than a hundred years ago the farm was also a home for old and frail farm labourers.
A childless couple had the farm built in 1858. The left in their will the purpose statement:
"The establishment of a charitable institution under the name of Sint Nicolaashoeve for the nursing of old and disabled farm labourers living in Nieuwveen"

After their deaths in 1868 the will was read . Besides a farm the building had the function of an old people's home until 1903, when the old disabled farm labourers were transfered and the building became just a farm again.

At present the farm is a monument . It caters for 20 milk cows and 15 young cows and calfs, 10 chicken , 5 cats, who are all called "Poes" and the little farm dog "Tippie". On the field we grow crops such as wheat, sugarbeets, maize , potatoes and sprouts. Since 2003 luxurious holiday apartments have been created in the Sint Nicolaashoeve . There is also a meeting and games room and excursions are organised from here. You could be greeted by tail-wagging Tippie, the purring cats, the cackling chicken, the mooing cows or the lovely calfs .
